STAINMASTER Ceramic Installation

FLOOR INSTALLATIONS

During the installation period, protect all floor tile installations with kraft paper or other heavy, nonslippery covering to prevent damage.

Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for the setting and grouting materials for traffic times to return floor to service.

Intrinsic size variation in ceramic tiles requires the use of grout joints. Ask the installer to recommend a suitable grout joint for the tile selected.

Special note for plank tiles: if an offset pattern is required, do not use an offset greater than 25%.

INSTALLING STAINMASTER Specialty Grout

Start with a clean and completely dry surface. Wearing rubber gloves, use a green rubber float to apply the grout onto the surface, as you would any grout. Apply pressure at an angle, packing joints tightly. Make sure joints are flush and full, using the floater to any remove excess grout.

After 30 minutes, stop and clean area. Use the clean scrub pad to drip water on the tiles. Lightly scrub to clean the surface of the tile. Follow up with one pass across the tiles to remove any haze.

24 hours later, check for any remaining haze. STAINMASTER™ Haze Remover is designed to safely remove haze even days after application. Lightly spray the haze and wait 3-5 minutes. Then scrub lightly with the clean scrub pad. Use a clean sponge with clear clean water to finish cleaning the haze remover. Dry with a soft clean cloth.

Please review the following cautions for installing with STAINMASTER™ Specialty Grout:

  1. Apply product at temperatures between 65° and 75° F.
  2. Remove excess product from the tile surface rapidly. Once it hardens, it will have to be removed mechanically.
  3. While cleaning, frequently change the water, the felt, and the sponge.
  4. Do not walk on the just grouted surface or cover the grouted surface with cloth or other materials which would cause condensation during the curing process.
  5. Do not use for grouting Terracotta and Saltillo or other porous manufactured products.
  6. Natural stones, crackled glass and other porous materials: it is necessary to perform a preliminary test to verify whether there is absorption of resin by the materials. In the case of absorption, the material may display dark stains on the sides or on the surface; these most likely cannot be removed. This problem is most associated with light marble or onyx stones and some hone and crackled glass/mosaic tile.
  7. Do not use with Vinyl Tile products

MIXING STAINMASTER Specialty Grout

grout mixing

Whether you have chosen classic, glamour, metallic, or crystal glass grouting, for the best mixture consistency, let the product come to room temperature for 1 day before mixing. 65° - 75° is ideal. Never mix when the temperature is below 55° or above 85°.

Mix only enough grout that can be spread and cleaned within one hour of mixing.

The STAINMASTER™ Specialty Grout bucket contains an instruction booklet, scrub pad, Part B catalyst, and grout base. Following the instruction booklet, and wearing rubber gloves, pour all of the catalyst into the grouting mixture. To avoid trapping air in the mixture, grout requires slow mixing, an electric drill fitted equipped with a mixing paddle at a low speed is recommended. Hand mixing is not recommended. Use a margin trowel to make sure all of the grout is removed from the edges and thoroughly mixed.

If you are adding a Shimmer Finish, make a pocket in the middle of the mixture and pour in the shimmer, slowly folding it in. Finish mixing with a power mixer. Plan to use 1 packet of Shimmer per 5.5 lb. bucket or 2 packets per 11 lb. bucket.

STAINMASTER™ Specialty Grout has the color baked in to the quartz aggregate, so the resulting grout color is always consistent and non-fading.

STAINMASTER ENHANCED GROUT MIX

grout mixing shimmer

If you’re using traditional cement grout, use STAINMASTER™ Enhanced Grout Mix instead of water to seal, protect, and strengthen. Additional water can be added if required; see product label for tips.

Do not use with any other type of cement mortar, not for use with grouts already claiming stain resistance, such as epoxy, urethane, acrylics or any ready-to-use grouts, or if the grout states you may only add water. Do not mix with other additives. Follow all label instructions.

Use unsanded Portland cement mortar and the corresponding Enhanced Grout Mix for grout joints 1/8 inch wide or smaller.

When using sanded Portland cement mortar, use the corresponding Enhanced Grout Mix for grout joints 1/8 inch wide or larger.
