WHAT IS CARPET RECLAMATION?

Quite simply… it means diverting carpet from landfills and extending its useful life through recycling into other products. According to the Carpet America Recovery Effort, more than five billion pounds of post-consumer carpet went into landfills in 2008. The rate of carpet recycling is only 5% in the US.

The STAINMASTER® Carpet Recycling Program, a division of INVISTA’s Carpet Reclamation Program, is doings its part to increase the rate of carpet recycling.

EXTENDING THE USEFUL LIFE OF CARPET

The INVISTA Carpet Reclamation Program, the first nationwide carpet reclamation program has a uniquely simple approach that allows flooring retailers to take back all types of used carpet – regardless of make, fiber or manufacturer – so no carpet will ever go to a landfill. Since 2001, the program has collected more than 85 million pounds of carpet, resulting in more than 425,000 cubic yards of conserved landfill space.

A SECOND LIFE FOR OLD CARPET
We know that as an environmentally conscious consumer, you may have an interest in knowing what happens to your old carpet. You want to be assured that there are environmentally responsible options for your old carpet. INVISTA's Carpet Reclamation Program provides you with an environmentally responsible option. For more than 15 years, the program has found new ways to put used carpet back to work, ensuring the reuse of reclaimed carpet.

While old carpet is often recycled back into new carpet products, some nylon polymers (such as Type 6,6) can be reincarnated into other products, like automotive parts, with less refining. This approach saves energy and conserves resources.
