Below is a checklist of considerations that will prepare you to shop for carpet. Print this checklist and bring it to our store for reference as you shop.

Room Use...back to checklist
Some carpet styles are designed for active use and make a lot of sense in high traffic areas. Other styles work better in formal rooms that don't have a lot of coming and going. We can help you find a style that meets your needs.

Color & Style...back to checklist
Create a unifying flow of colors throughout your house by using the same colors in varying roles in your rooms. If you've used lemon yellow on the wall of the kitchen, use the samelemon yellow as an accent color in the adjoining family room.

Don't match carpet color exactly with wall paint or upholstery; the room will appear too rigid. Instead choose a darker or lighter shade to create variation and definition.

Lighter carpets or flooring open up a room and give it a larger, airy feeling. Darker carpets and flooring can make a room seem smaller and cozier.

Besides different colors, carpets also come in a multitude of styles. Familiarize yourself with some possible carpet styles on the carpet selector to start planning the look of your room.

The carpet calculator adds ten percent to your totals to account for closets and room irregularities. In general, it's a good idea to buy extra carpet to allow for cutting, seaming, and pattern repeats. The calculator rounds results up to the nearest whole number, as carpet is sold in units of square yards or square feet.

Padding ...back to checklist
Padding is a critical flooring component. It's the foundation for your carpet, responsible for enhancing both comfort and durability. The right padding will:

*Absorb the constant pressure of foot traffic

*Keep the carpet from matting down and looking worn

*Add insulation

*Reduce noise

All STAINMASTER® carpet warranties require that you select padding with appropriate thickness and density to handle the carpet traffic. Our sales professionals can help you mach the right padding to your new carpet.
